The Tectal Race SPIN is a well ventilated helmet specially designed for aggressive trail biking and enduro racing. It contains the same aramid bridge system as POC's proven and award-winning helmets. To fulfill its mission and the needs of Enduro Mountainbiking, POC always develops its helmets with regard to the entire helmet, i.e. the interaction of all materials and features. Therefore, the Tectal Race SPIN was built even more robust and safe and is now additionally equipped with POC's patented SPIN technology. The new SPIN Pads ensure that the energy that acts on the brain in a fall with a diagonal impact is reduced.
The reinforced EPS liner offers a high level of protection through its unibody construction introduced in the groundbreaking Octal racing bike helmet. This manufacturing method offers a further improvement in the safety features and integrity of the helmet's construction while maintaining low weight.
The Tectal Race SPIN surrounds the head more extensively than conventional mountain bike helmets. It has a highly efficient ventilation design that has been tested and optimized in the wind tunnel. A goggle clip on the back of the head and an easy-to-use size adjustment system guarantee a comfortable and secure fit.
Oblique impact protection is necessary to counter the forces involved in non-linear impacts, which are a common cause of head injury. SPIN (Shearing Pad INside) pads are integrated inside a helmet and add an extra layer of oblique impact protection by shearing in any direction, reducing the force transmitted to the brain. The most common type of fall results in an angled, or oblique, impact with the ground or object which can lead to a rotation of the helmet and head.
Research has shown that compared to a direct, or linear, fall the force required to cause serious head injury from an oblique impact is often much lower. To counter this common impact scenario, POC created SPIN pads which are an evolution on nature’s own design and use an innovative pad technology and design. SPIN pads are optimized to provide oblique impact protection based on the precise location inside the helmet and by using various pad technologies which can shear in any direction. The aim is to minimize the effects of an oblique fall by allowing the helmet to move relative to the head.
