The design of the carbon fibre cranksets, which make the Super Record, Record and Chorus groups unique, has also paved the way for the exceptional Potenza 11 drive system with the new aluminium crankset. The Potenza crankset features forged hollow cranks to reduce weight to a minimum while maintaining the same performance characteristics as the corresponding carbon fibre products.
Thanks to the design of the four-arm chainring and the pedal crank arm, which is identical for all available chainrings thanks to the unified pitch circle diameter, all 3 standards (53/39, 52/36 and 50/34) can be mounted on the same crankset. In order to switch from the compact version to the standard version, only 8 bolts and 2 chainrings need to be replaced in the Potenza group.
Although the bolt configuration of the 4 arm construction undoubtedly offers practical advantages, the Campy Tech Lab has developed it primarily in terms of performance features. The 8 bolt configuration combined with the design of the pedal crank, which not only holds the chainring in position with the bolt, but also supports it, increases the rigidity of the system to such an extent that it performs better in laboratory tests than competitor products.
